Return and the Sharkies earn

16 Feb 2020 by Jeff Anderson

Mid 2019 season Stockton Junior Soccer Club commenced the Return and Sharkies Earn program which is a dual-purpose initiative; to a) raise funds for our club and b) raise recycling awareness for both the kids and parents involved in the club.

The club began collecting appropriately marked return and earn vessels (i.e. most Cans, Bottles, tetra packs, Milk & water containers (1 L and below)) and so far we’ve already managed to raise over $1,000 from the blue bins placed around Corroba at home games and from a precious few people who have gone out of their way to collect cans for the club. A big shout out and THANK YOU to everyone who has collected at home and donated to the club.

We are keen to grow vessel collections in 2020 to increase the funds for the club.

How are we planning to collect vessels?
• Continue to collect vessels from the blue bins at home games.
• We’ve fabricated an enclosure which will be located in the Corroba Oval car park (we are currently negotiating with Newcastle City Council in relation to permission for placement) which will provide a convenient place for people to drop off vessels collected at home.
• For larges stockpiles, we will arrange pick up.

How can you help?
• If you have a stockpile of Return and Earn vessels, let us know and we’ll pick them up
• If you are having a party where you expect a lot of “soft drink” cans or bottles will be consumed, let us know and we’ll drop off a bin ahead of the party and arrange for pick up afterward.

All raised funds from the return and earn program will contribute to the clubs Future Improvements fund. These funds will be used to assist the club apply for grants to improve the equipment and facilities for the Mighty Sharks.
